Public invited to All-America City celebration on July 30 at Center for the Arts

CHANDLER, Ariz. – On Friday evening July 30, 2010, the public is invited to Chandler’s All-America City Community Celebration starting at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Chandler Center for the Arts. After a reception with entertainment and refreshments, Mayor Boyd Dunn will make a presentation in the main auditorium at 7 p.m. The presentation will include a slide show and video highlighting the Chandler delegation’s trip in June to Kansas City, Mo., for the competition. The event will also honor the people, organizations, and corporate sponsors who supported the City’s award application.

“We continue to receive congratulatory messages every day from residents, business leaders and public officials in Arizona and across the nation,” said Mayor Dunn. “This is the first opportunity we have had to bring the community together to celebrate this honor and begin the process of building on our success. I’m extremely proud of this accomplishment and excited about what it can mean for our City’s future.”

Chandler earned the prestigious All-America City award on June 18 after a 23-member delegation of community leaders, residents, and City and School District staff made a presentation to a panel of judges. The delegates highlighted three community projects that demonstrated collaboration, innovation and civic engagement. They included partnerships with ICAN’s underage drinking taskforce, the Chandler CARE Center and its work providing medical care to students, and the Chandler Heights Community Facilities, which include a police substation, Environmental Education Center (EEC), and park and water recharge facility. Each of these organizations will have information booths at the event.

Refreshments and drinks will be available thanks to generous donations from several local restaurants, including Serrano’s, Floridino’s and Shangri-La De Old Cathay. The Chandler Unified School District is donating the drinks and desserts.
