Tumbleweed Tree Lighting & Parade of Lights

The lighting of the traditional Tumbleweed Tree and the annual Parade of Lights are expected to bring more than 12,000 people to the renewed downtown area to celebrate the season on Saturday evening, December 4, 2010. The festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. with entertainment, music, and fun for children in Dr. A.J. Chandler Park. The Parade of Lights begins at 7 p.m. and features a record 60 entries, including 26 floats. Immediately following the parade, the City will light the 54th Tumbleweed Tree. The parade route will start at the corner of Arizona Avenue and Chicago Street. The festive floats and other entries will pass by the new Chandler City Hall as they move north on Arizona Ave. through the downtown area. As it reaches the north end of Dr. A.J. Chandler Park, the procession will turn right on Buffalo St., followed by another right turn onto Arizona Place. After moving along the east side of Dr. A.J. Chandler Park, the parade will end at the corner of Boston St. and Arizona Pl. Residents are reminded that Arizona Ave. will be closed for the event between Chandler Blvd. and Frye Rd., from 4 to 10 p.m. Several other smaller streets in the downtown area will also be closed or restricted during the festivities. While no extreme weather is currently in the forecast, conditions could change and affect the event.
