Third Annual Fall Fishing Clinic and Outdoor Safety Event to be held Oct. 15 at Veterans Oasis Park

The Environmental Education Center (EEC) at Veterans Oasis Park will host a Fall Fishing Clinic and Outdoor Safety Event on Saturday, October 15 from 8 a.m. to noon. The event is free, open to the public, and appropriate for all ages. The EEC is located at 4050 E. Chandler Heights Road., just east of Lindsay Road.

The event is a collaborative effort between the EEC, the Chandler Heights Police Substation and the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD). In addition to the fishing, the EEC and the Police substation will offer free information, activities and demonstrations all focused around the theme of safety.

The Chandler Police Department will have some of their specialty vehicles on display, including the Command Van, Chevelle hot-rod, and a SWAT vehicle. Free information and demonstrations by the Crime Prevention Unit, Park Rangers, and a K-9 Officer will also be available. From 10 a.m. to noon inside the EEC, the Arizona Herpetological Association (AHA) will let you get up close and personal with live animals and learn about desert safety.

During the four-hour clinic, AZGFD sport fishing instructors will provide basic fishing tips and guidance to participants. They will also have a limited number of fishing rods and bait to be loaned to participants on a first-come, first-served basis. All participants may fish during the event without a license once they have signed up at the AZGFD booth. However, fishing outside of the clinic hours requires a license. Please visit www.azgfd.gov for information about fishing licenses and regulations. Fishing licenses and supplies are not available for purchase at the park.

Please go to www.chandleraz.gov/veterans-oasis the week prior to the event to get updates on the status of this fishing clinic and outdoor safety fair. Inclement weather may cause the program to be altered or cancelled. You can also call 480-782-2890 or 480-782-4900 for additional information.
